Small Change organises and sponsors an annual student design competition 'small home BIG LIFE' to inspire the next generation of designers and builders to build smaller and more sustainable homes.
This customised Quark was built on a lot that is 180m2 but with a large easement the buildable envelope was only 140m2
Despite this limitation the 57m2 freestanding home feels surprisingly spacious with plenty of solar access to the living/kitchen area. The home has been customized with an entry porch and a narrow high corner window to ensure privacy while offering a view of the street tree and sky from the living room. Black corrugated steel sits beside the white gabled structure in harmonious contrast. Inside, the soaring ceilings to both the living area and bedroom make this extra small house extra special.
